National Club Golfer
In the February 2012 issue of National Club Golfer Longniddry is rated 44th in the Top 100 Courses in the UK with green fees under £50. £48 per person on a weekday represents excellent value for money at this unique combionation of woodland and links.
Men's Winter Open Competition: 31st March 2012
We are delighted to announce that on Saturday 31st March 2012, the inaugural Men's Winter Open will be played at Longniddry, genrously sponsored by Duck's of Aberlady, who are offering a shared twin room rate of £70 for B&B. East Lothian Junior County Cup
On October 21st, the Longniddry team of Fraser Johnston, Sam Stuart, Cameron Simpson and Calum Wilson won the trophy, beating Gullane in the finals played over the Old Course at Musselburgh. Earlier in the year, Longniddry also won the East Lothian Junior Strokeplay to do the double!
Longniddry Scratch Open: 13th August 2011
Youth Member, Myles Cunningham won our Scratch Open with two 69s for a 138 and took the Durward Trophy by a shot - well done Myles!
The last Longniddry Member to lift the trophy was Raymond Russell who won the trophy in 1988 and later went on to turn professional - let that be an inspiration to you Myles!
Hosted Tournaments
In the last few weeks, Longniddry has agreed to host 2 prestigious tournaments. In September 2012, the Lothians Golf Association will be holding the 72 hole South East District Championship at the Club, whilst in May 2013, Longniddry will be the venue for the Scottish Ladies Amateur Championship organised by the Scottish Ladies Golf Union. These are testament to the quality of the course.
Club Championship
In the first round of the Club Championship on Monday 13th June, Kevin Girdler holed his tee shot at the par 4 11th hole in the process of winning his tie - an amazing albatross hole-in-one!
US Kids European Championships
After 3 tounds of 9 holes, the winners of the 2011 European Championships at Longniddry on 2nd June were as follows:-
Boys 7 & Under: Allan Kournikova, USA - 2 under
Boys 8 & Under: George Leigh, GB - 9 under
Girls 8 & Under: Tijan Jovicevic, Slovenia - 6 over
Girls 9 & Under: Emilie Paltrinieri, Italy - 7 under
Well done to all of the competitors who had to cope with some cool and windy conditions, but the sun shone on the last day!
Top 100 Courses in Scotland
In the 2011 Golf World survey, Longniddry was rated 70th best in Scotland, with 14 East Lothian courses in the top 100.

Winter Knock-out Competitions
Congratulations to the winners of the following competitions:-
The Abbot Cup (Fourball) was won by Luke Fisher and Neil Millar who beat Joe Milne and Stephen Carson in the final.
Ian Mackay & Barry Johnston won the Kincraig Trophies (Foursomes) beating Tom Jarron & Tam Galloway in the final.
Winter League
Sadly, results didn't go our way on the last Sunday of the competition and The Glen beat Dunbar to win the league with Longniddry finishing joint third. Hard lines lads!
Margaret Bennett
It is with great regret that we advise that Margaret Bennett who joined the Club in 2001, passed away on January 16th. The funeral will take place at 10.30pm on Thursday 27th January in Longniddry Parish Church then on to Aberlady for the committal. Thereafter a buffet lunch will be served in the clubhouse.
Our thoughts go to Margaret's family at this sad time.
Angus Hunter
It with is with great regret that we advise that Angus Hunter a former Life Member and part-time barman at the Club for many years, has passed away after a short illness. The funeral service will take place in Aberlady Parish Church at noon on Thursday 23rd December and thereafter a reception will be held in the Longniddry Inn. Our thoughts go to Angus' family at this sad time, particularly his grandson, Murray White one of our greens-staff.
James Braid
We were contacted recently by the husband of James Braid's great grand-daughter who is compiliing a family archive of his golfing life. He was querying payments from Longniddry in Braid's ledger for £10 in 1923 and £26 in 1936 and having researched the matter, the explanation can be found in the history section of the website under the photograph.
Death of Member
It with is with great regret that we advise that Jimmy Mason who joined the Club in 1988, passed away on November 15th. The funeral details will be announced in due course but our thoughts go to Jimmy's family and his friends in the Wednesday Club at this sad time.
East Lothian Gents' Winter League
Longniddry had an excellent away win against Dunbar on 14th November, winning by 3 matches to 2, to go 3rd in the league.
Death of Member
It with is with great regret that we advise that Steve Knowles who joined the Club 2 years ago, passed away on October 28th. The funeral service will take place at Seafield Crematorium at 2.00pm on Friday 5th November, followed by a reception in the clubhouse at Longniddry.
Our thoughts go to Steve's family and his friends in the Wednesday Club at this sad time.
Raymond Russell
Congratulations to Honorary Member, Raymond Russell on securing a place on the European Tour after finishing in 19th place in the Challenge Tour Order of Merit. We wish him well for the season ahead.
East Lothian Gents' Winter League
After defeats to Royal Musselburgh and The Glen, Longniddry beat Haddington by 3 matches to 2 on Halloween to record their first victory of the campaign - well done lads!
Orders of Merit
Congratulations are due to to Chris Wood and Chris Algeo for winning the Scratch & Junior Orders of Merit with 92 and 64 points respectively, having led for most of the season - well done both!
The Handicap Order of Merit was won by Alan Ramsay who earned 4 points in the last Medal of the season to pip Dave Chappell who had led for much of the season and finished on 28 points.
Summer Knock-out Competitions
Congratulations to the winners of the following competitions:-
The Sawers Cup was won by Cecil Graham who beat Alan Knox in the final.
Alan Banks & Donald Mackinnon won The Laird Quaichs beating Mike Robinson & Tom Thomas in the final.
Karen Holmes & Dave Bisset beat Jane & Murray Bremner in the final of The Osborne Trophies.

Holes-in-One
In July & August, Lady Members Linda Smith & Heather Coogan scored holes-in-one and were able to claim £75 on their golfers' insurance scheme to re-imburse them for drinks purchased at the bar - well done Ladies!
Unfortunately, neither was scored at the 6th, the nominated hole to win a bottle of 15 year old Glenlivet single malt!

Raymond Russell
Congratulations to Raymond Russell, an Honorary Member at Longniddry, on winning the Alps Tour's Emporda Open in Spain on 18th April. This is Raymond's 3rd professional tournament win. Well done!
Gents Winter Fourball & Foursomes MatchPlay Competitions
Congratulations to Robin Rourke & Neil Brotherston on winning the Abbot Cup Winter Fourball Trophy. Match & Handicap Convenor, Iain MacRaild and son Roddy went one better by retaining the Kincraig Trophies - a tremendous achievement - well done!
Senior Progolf Tour Event
Longniddry has agreed to host a 54 hole event for the Senior Progolf Tour from 13-15th July. The tournament is held each year prior to the qualifying for the Senior British Open and normally has players from as far afield as the USA and Singapore as well as players from the home countries. This will be the first professional competition held at Longniddry since the Pringle of Scotland Seniors Championship in 1970 and we're delighted to be involved.
Integrated Winter Stableford Competition
After the final round of the above competition which was played on Sunday 21st March, Scott Jackson pipped Charlie Tulloch by one point to take the Miss SM MacCallum & JG Blyth Quaich. Well done!
Winter League 2009-10
Having led the league for most of the season, Longniddry finished proud runners-up to Gullane. Following our promotion last season coupled with the ''cut throat'' league format this season our goal was to primarily survive the relegation threat in order to compete in Division 1 again over season 2010-2011. Finishing second and mounting a very serious challenge for top spot really shows the quality within our squad and our future potential in this competitive league.
Billy Gordon
We have just been advised that the funeral of Billy Gordon who sadly passed away on the golf course on 17th February will take place at Seafield Crematorium on Saturday 27th February at 10.00.
New Year Honours
We are delighted to announce that two of our Lady Members have been awarded honours in the Queen's New Year Honours List.
Deirdre Kinloch Anderson, a Director of the Club has been awarded an OBE for services to the textile industry, while Dr Maria Graham has been awarded an MBE for services to Polish-Scottish relations and to medicine. We offer warm congratulations to both ladies for their achievements.
Winter League 2009-10
Longniddry's good form continued on Sunday 13th December with a good 3-2 home win over Royal Musselburgh which should keep our team in top spot.
On Sunday 6th December, Longniddry had a halved match at North Berwick with Tantallon to remain unbeaten in this year's campaign.
Longniddry remain top of the table after an excellent home win over Dunbar on Sunday 29th November by 3.5 matches to 1.5.
After an excellent away draw with Craigielaw on October 18th, Longniddry had a tremendous 3.5 to 1.5 home win against Kilspindie played in horrendous conditions on November 1st.
Medal Winners' Medal
On 24th October, the Peter Barr Trophy was won by Duncan Martin with a scratch 70 while Kenny McGregor won the Teesdale Trophy with a net 74. Well done guys!
O pen Competitions
On Saturday 4th July, the Gents Handicap Open was won by Alex Craik of Duns Golf Club with a net 61 - an excellent score! With Allan & Avril Trickett of the same having won the Mixed Open on June 13th, it seems Duns members like the Longniddry course!
Also on Saturday, Karl Parks of Hunley Hill GC scored a hole-in-one at the 16th hole and was presented with a litre of gin by the Club.
Ladies vs Gents Match: 22nd June
In a closely contested match between 16 teams on each side, the Gents' team captained by Norman Elliott retained the Merlinlee Trophy by winning 8.5 matches to 7.5. After the match, the 64 participants enjoyed a light supper and the clubhouse was buzzing!

Lord Wemyss
It with is with great regret that we advise that Club President Lord Wemyss passed away in hospital on Friday 12th December after a short illness. Our thoughts go to Lady Wemyss and the family at this sad time.
Annual Prize-giving
The annual Club prize-giving took place on 29th November 2008. This year's Champions are shown below with the Club Captains.
Greenkeeping Team
We're delighted to announce that our youngest greenkeeper, Murray White was awarded the Prize for Best Student at the Oatridge College Prize Giving Ceremony on 17th October 2008.
2008 Summer Knock-outs
Congratulations to Bruce Boyd who beat Sam Sullivan in the final to win the Sawers Cup at the 19th. Well done also to Dave Moffat & Peter Henderson for overcoming Robin Sharp & Tom Walker in the final to win the Laird Quaichs.
New Course Rating
Following a recent re-rating of the course, the Standard Scratch Score for the White Tees has been increased to 71, while the SSS for the Yellow Tees goes up to 70. These changes are effective from 14th August 2008.
Zack Saltman retains Durward Trophy
On August 16th, Zack Saltman of Craigielaw became only the 3rd player in its history to successfully defend the Durward Trophy awarded to the winner of the Longniddry 36 Hole Scratch Open.
Zack and playing partner Myles Cunningham of Longniddry, had matching scores of 69 & 66 but Zack retained the trophy with an inward half of 32 in the second round to pip Myles by a shot despite taking 6 at the last.
Lothians Team Tournament
Having won the Tournament in 2007 for only the second time in its 80 year history, we're delighted to announce that Longniddry won this event which took place on July 26th 2008 and retains the trophy which has been on display in the lounge.
Our team comprised Andrew (Gus) Fergusson & Scott Hardie who were level par at Castle Park, and Chris Wood & Malcolm Graham who were due to play at Gullane No 1 but it was unplayable due to fog so the 142 by Messrs Ferguson & Hardie won by 1 stroke from Craigielaw. Well done lads!
Sam Torrance recommends Longniddry
In a recent feature in the Scotsman newspaper, Sam Torrance, one of Scotland's golfing legends, listed Longniddry as one of his top 5 'hidden gem' courses in Scotland. He particularly likes the driveable dogleg par 4, 5th hole. Sam says Longniddry is a fabulous course - great praise indeed!
